This month saw a huge rise in the number and quality of entries in the #lifewellcaptured Instagram competition. May was also the month we introduced the @lifewellcaptured account which is dedicated to showcasing the best of the tagged images. Moderator, Amy (@ace_space_) has put together some beautiful feature grids and we have discovered some amazing artists along the way.
This lovely image by Kimi Mills, (@kmills_photog) of her daughter reading in the bath, became a favourite of mine as soon as I saw it. I love the way the shower curtain is positioned at the edge of the frame, drawing you in, and how the everyday objects in the background lead your eye around the frame. I also love that you can see the title of the book, and that her eyes are intently focused on the page.
As this month's winner, Kimi got her pick of camera bags, and has chosen the Zoe in sidewalk grey as her prize!
Of course with so many high quality entries, it was not at all easy to narrow it down to just one. Here are a few other 'honourable mentions'. Click on the image to go directly to the photographer's Instagram page.
One of the things I loved most about this competition is that it forced people to pick up their camera and take photos of ordinary moments in their lives. A well composed, and well captured image of an ordinary moment will become the seed of a clear memory of your youth, or childhood, in years to come. It emphasises that what seems so ordinary now, is actually quite precious.
I am happy to announce that we will be running another competition in June, so stay tuned for the theme announcement!
