This month saw a huge rise in the number and quality of entries in the #lifewellcaptured Instagram competition. May was also the month we introduced the @lifewellcaptured account which is dedicated to showcasing the best of the tagged images. Moderator, Amy (@ace_space_) has put together some beautiful feature grids and we have discovered some amazing artists along the way.
This lovely image by Kimi Mills, (@kmills_photog) of her daughter reading in the bath, became a favourite of mine as soon as I saw it. I love the way the shower curtain is positioned at the edge of the frame, drawing you in, and how the everyday objects in the background lead your eye around the frame. I also love that you can see the title of the book, and that her eyes are intently focused on the page.
As this month's winner, Kimi got her pick of camera bags, and has chosen the Zoe in sidewalk grey as her prize!
Of course with so many high quality entries, it was not at all easy to narrow it down to just one. Here are a few other 'honourable mentions'. Click on the image to go directly to the photographer's Instagram page.
One of the things I loved most about this competition is that it forced people to pick up their camera and take photos of ordinary moments in their lives. A well composed, and well captured image of an ordinary moment will become the seed of a clear memory of your youth, or childhood, in years to come. It emphasises that what seems so ordinary now, is actually quite precious.
I am happy to announce that we will be running another competition in June, so stay tuned for the theme announcement!
Beautiful captures of an ordinary life can sometimes be the most rewarding. A well captured picture of your children having breakfast, or of you having a coffee in your garden just after the spring flowers have bloomed will bring back a flood of warm memories in years to come.
Sometimes it is not until you look back on a picture of what seems so routine and ordinary now, that you are able to appreciate how much your life has changed.
This month you can win a Lilah Snow Camera bag by tagging photos of something 'Routine' in your life with #lifewellcaptured on Instagram.
The #lifewellcaptured tag took off so well last month that I have also started an Instagram account in the same name (@lifewellcaptured) to showcase some of those beautiful images. The competition rules change slightly to include following the accounts of both @lifewellcaptured and @lilahsnow to enter.
I would like to welcome @ace_space_ who will be helping me moderate this new account!
The conditions of entry are:
(note this has been edited to remove the need to tag @lilahsnow as it was becoming too confusing!)
+ You must be following both Lilah Snow and Life Well Captured on Instagram
+ Tag your image with #lifewellcaptured and make sure your account isn't set to private or I may not be able to see it!
Using the tag may mean that I share your image, with credit to you, on my social media.
+ Tag only new images. Only those which show up in the #lifewellcaptured feed after the May theme announcement image will be considered for this month.
+ The winner may choose whichever camera bag they like and the prize includes postage within Australia. The competition is open worldwide, but if the winner is from outside Australia, they will be responsible for shipping costs.
+ This is a competition of skill, chance plays no part in determining the winner. The winner will be chosen by myself (@lilahsnow) and @ace_space_ and our decision is final.
+ This competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram.
+ Competition ends midnight May 31, 2016 (Australian EST)
What are you going to take a photo of?
From the moment I saw this image I felt a strong connection to it. I love the dog, the dad, the baby, the mayhem of light caused by the sprinkler and the fact that everyone is heading in a different direction. I feel that it captures family life in an interesting and unique way and I just love it!
You should definitely check out @withloveandlacemelanie's feed, because she had more than one photo on my short list.
Thank you so much to everyone else who entered an image, there were so many amazing photos that I found it SO difficult to choose and I will have to share some of my other favourites as well.
I have also decided to run the competition again this month with a new theme....stay tuned!
These are my other favourite images from over 500 entries! Click on the image to go to the Instagram post and make sure you visit the galleries of your favourites to sprinkle some love on the original shots!
